　　　　　　　　　　　　　留学する学生にアドバイスするとしたら？

As much as possible, students should make some good habits of studying English everyday, so becomes a part of their lives. Everyone wants to speak English but in Japan there are not many chances for people to speak English.

Of course, in our i-Lounge, we have some foreign students and sometimes NGU students can make friends with them, and practice English with them.

I also encourage students to read a lot. I want the students to read for enjoyment and not worry if they don't understand everything. Of course you want to understand too, but if you just keep on reading that, your ability will increase and you'll slowly get better.

可能な限り、毎日英語を学ぶよい習慣身に付けるべきです。すると生活の一部となるはずです。皆が英語を話したがりますが、日本ではその機会があまりありません。もちろん、本学の学生はi-Loungeで交換留学生と友達になることもあり、彼らと英語を練習することができます。多読もオススメです。理解できない部分があることを気にせず、読書を楽しんでほしいですね。もちろん、全部理解したいと思うでしょうが、読み続けていけば能力が向上していき、徐々にわかるようになります。

What I do in most of my classes is to try to encourage students to speak by giving them questions to ask each other, discussion questions in small groups. If we do pair-work or work in small groups, students enjoy it. It's good practice for students and so I want to give them as many chances to speak English as possible.

私がほとんどの授業で行うのは、小さなグループで質問をしあったり、質問に対してのディスカッションから、学生たちが話すのを促すことです。ペアワークや小グループでの活動を行うと、学生たちは楽しめるんですね。良い練習になりますし、可能な限り英語を話す機会を与えたいですから。

I also encourage the students to practice listening, when they are commuting, whether on the train or on the bus or the bicycle. Listen again and again and again and again and again ―10times till you get use to the sound and the rhythm of English.

私が、もう一つ学生に勧めているのは、通学の時に（電車であれバスであれ自転車であれ）リスニングの練習をすることです。何度も何度も何度も、英語の音とリズムに慣れるまで繰り返し聞くことです。

I encourage the students to study abroad because when they go abroad, they make new friends and see a lot of things and broaden their interests. They are more motivated to study English. When I was young, I traveled around the world. That made me more interested in living abroad, studying abroad and...eventually I came to Japan. So that experience infulenced my life and I hope that our students could have some experience like that.

留学もお勧めです。海外に行くと、新しい友達ができて、見聞を広め、より興味の幅が広がります。そうすると英語を学ぶ動機になりますから。私は若いころ、世界中を旅して周りました。海外で生活すること、海外で学ぶことに、より興味を抱かせることとなり・・・結果、私は日本に来たのです。この経験が私の人生に影響を与えましたので、学生たちにも同じような経験をしてほしいと思っています。

　　　『Matilda』   著者：Roald Dahl

今日お薦めする本は、「チャーリーとチョコレート工場」の著者、ロアルド・ダール著の「Matilda」です。先生からは、この本は楽しく読める本で、リーディングの練習をするならば、面白くて楽しめることが大切だから、ということで、お薦め頂きました。

コンケン大学との交換留学プログラムは、先生がスタートさせる手伝いをしたのだそうです。

先生は年に２・３回、タイを訪れるそうです。
